He rebuilt a 200,000-mile Land Cruiser - and found a huge problem
We spend four days rebuilding the heart of a high-mileage Toyota Land Cruiser, replacing the transfer case, front and rear differentials, axle shafts, bearings, seals, gears, and manual locking hubs to restore its four-wheel-drive system. With upgraded components throughout the drivetrain, the legendary 80 Series is almost ready for some of America's toughest off-road trails. But just when everything seems complete, one final mystery keeps the four-wheel-drive system from working as planned, setting the stage for the next chapter of the build.

It's a $12,000 EV. The American car industry is doomed.
While American families face record vehicle prices, long-term loans, and monthly payments approaching $800, Chinese companies are producing modern electric cars for a fraction of the cost. Yet aggressive tariffs and national security restrictions have effectively locked them out of the American market. This video examines the 100% tariff on Chinese electric vehicles, the influence of Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis, and why affordable models such as the BYD Seagull pose an existential threat to Detroit’s business model. We also investigate claims that Chinese vehicles are unsafe and compare them with cars that have earned top ratings in European crash tests. But the controversy goes beyond trade and corporate lobbying. Connected vehicles contain cameras, microphones, sensors, and software that manufacturers can update remotely. Washington fears these systems could be used for surveillance or even to disable thousands of cars during a geopolitical crisis. Cheap Chinese cars could lower prices and accelerate America’s transition to electric vehicles, but they could also give a foreign power access to critical infrastructure. The real question is whether Americans are being protected from China, or protected from affordable competition. SUGGEST A TOPIC: https://bit.ly/suggest-an-infographic... Don't forget to FOLLOW! Bugatti unveils one-off Destrier hypercar with bespoke design and luxury interior | In pics
One-off debut: Bugatti has revealed the Destrier, a one-off hypercar created through its Programme Solitaire bespoke division. It is the third Solitaire commission after the Brouillard and F.K.P. Hommage. The Destrier uses the Bolide’s carbon-fibre monocoque, powertrain and running gear, but has completely new bodywork. Unlike the track-only Bolide, it is designed around craftsmanship and grand touring rather than outright lap-time performance. Bolide base: The Destrier is based on the track-only Bugatti Bolide, which was developed primarily for circuit performance. It retains the Bolide’s 8.0-litre, quad-turbocharged W16 engine, producing 1,600 PS, equivalent to about 1,578bhp, and 1,850Nm of torque. Bugatti has not confirmed any mechanical changes apart from the new bodywork, and has not released performance figures for the Destrier. Cleaner design: The biggest change is the bodywork. The Destrier keeps the Bolide’s carbon-fibre monocoque but replaces its wings, vents and other track-focused aerodynamic elements with a cleaner design. Bugatti has reworked its signature C-line, while the car gets redesigned lighting, a wider horseshoe grille and an integrated rear wing. The low roof and wide rear haunches also set it apart from the Bolide. Lowest Bugatti: At one metre tall, the Destrier is the lowest Bugatti ever built. It uses 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels, compared with the 18-inch wheels of the Bolide. The cabin sits low between the front wheels, while the body narrows behind the doors before widening over the rear wheels. Bugatti says these proportions are intended to resemble a medieval war horse. Type 57 link: The Destrier’s design is also linked to Bugatti’s Type 57 family. The Type 57 chassis formed the basis for the Type 57G and Type 57C Tank race cars as well as the Type 57SC Atlantic. The Tank cars won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1937 and 1939, while the Atlantic became one of Bugatti’s best-known designs. A laser-engraved plate references both cars. Custom finish: The one-off hypercar is finished in a bespoke colour called Sapphire Celeste, created exclusively for its owner. The blue paint is paired with polished aluminium trim and tinted exposed carbon-fibre elements. Bugatti also uses hammered metal finishes on parts of the car, including components in the engine bay. The treatment references the hand-beaten armour associated with medieval knights, which also inspired the Destrier name. Tailored cabin: The interior takes a different approach from the Bolide’s stripped-back racing cockpit. It combines Ambre Voyageur leather and nubuck with a bespoke 3D-knitted textile woven with copper yarn. Hammered metal finishes feature on the door handles, air vents, steering wheel hub and entry plates. A small French flag is also incorporated into the cabin as a reference to Bugatti’s French heritage. Same W16: The Destrier retains the Bolide’s 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16, producing 1,600 PS and 1,850Nm. The track-only Bolide has a claimed 0-100km/h time of 2.17 seconds, a top speed of 236mph and a kerb weight of around 3,100 pounds. These figures relate to the Bolide, however, as Bugatti has not disclosed equivalent performance figures for the Destrier. One commission: The Destrier carries a 1/1 marking because only one example has been commissioned. Its oil filler cap also carries the Destrier emblem and the same 1/1 designation. Programme Solitaire allows Bugatti customers to commission one-off vehicles based on existing platforms, with bespoke exterior and interior treatments. As with the earlier Solitaire projects, Bugatti has not disclosed the price of the Destrier. Monterey debut: The Bugatti Destrier will make its public debut during Monterey Car Week in California, with the programme culminating in an appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 16, 2026. Bugatti design director Frank Heyl said the Bolide’s proportions could be expressed differently once freed from its focus on downforce. The Destrier therefore uses the Bolide as its base for a design-led grand touring hypercar.
