Delhi EV Policy Draft: The Delhi government is considering scrapping old vehicles and offering higher subsidies on the purchase of new electric cars. The government also plans to convert 30 per cent of all school buses to electric by the end of March 2030, jagran.com reported. As a result, all vehicles in the government fleet will be electric in the future. Under the new policy, only electric three-wheelers will be eligible for new registration in the city from January 1, 2027, and only electric two-wheelers will be eligible for new registration from April 1, 2028.

The government is implementing a new government system under its new electric vehicle policy. This new electric vehicle policy, to be presented in the upcoming budget session of the Delhi Assembly, is expected to provide complete exemption from road tax and registration fees for all electric cars priced under Rs 30 lakh. The Delhi government's education department will ensure implementation of the school bus electrification plan.

30 Per Cent Of Entire Fleet To Be Electric By 2030

Sources cited by jagran.com said that 10 per cent of the school bus fleet will be electric two years after the notification of the electric vehicle policy, 20 per cent within three years, and 30 per cent of the entire fleet by March 31, 2030. This directive applies to all school buses, whether owned, leased, or operated on contract.

Additionally, the entire government vehicle fleet will be electric immediately after the policy is notified. To manage the large amount of battery waste generated by electric vehicles, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) will set up battery collection centers across the city.

How Much Subsidy Will Be Available?

The government may provide a subsidy of up to Rs 1 lakh on cars priced at Rs 10 lakh or more, which will be reduced to Rs 75,000 in the second year and Rs 50,000 in the third year. Similarly, for two-wheelers, subsidies of Rs 30,000 in the first year, Rs 20,000 in the second year, and Rs 10,000 in the third year are proposed.

Similarly, the subsidy for e-autos could be Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 in the first year, reducing to Rs 30,000 to Rs 20,000 by the third year.

According to the government, two-wheelers contribute 67 per cent and four-wheelers contribute 23 per cent to vehicular pollution in Delhi.
